Hello! I am settling in to the new studio and I wanted to thank you for your support in helping me get in there. I am now busily preparing for my first solo show in London in September with After Nyne Gallery.
This new body of work (working title: Neon Migraine) is about visibility and taking up space. I'm exploring new materials to work with (raw canvas that I can roll out directly on to the studio wall and make as large as I like.) I'm also working with mylar and exploring layering and the obscuring of imagery combined with the use of hella bright neon colours which kind of make me ill to view and force me to confront visibility in a really obvious way (you can't ignore neon) so it's been an interesting process to be in and certainly not without its frustrations and challenges. I’m most excited about working large and feeling unconfined, I’m really stretching out, feeling pretty raw about the whole thing and I think/hope it shows.
The photo above is of a piece that I have just finished, it's about 5.5 ft x 6.5ft currently but will lose some of those edges once it's been stretched, not sure exactly how big it will be in the end but probably 5ft x 6ft-ish. It's hard to photograph because the silver is very reflective and the neon is NEON. It's hard to see the details and the grit but I'm still a ways off from having the work photographed *for realsies* so not too worried about that part. Yet.
